losing weight with large ribcage for women...

I read a lot of posts in the past about women being sad about their huge ribcage when I was looking for a solution for my large ribcage. It made me sad how many women were so bothered by it and how they admitted to becoming bitter towards other women for their small ribcage. I first want to say, it's worse in your own eyes, I've seen big rib cages...BIG, and these women pull it off just fine, we are our own worst critics. But anyways! I wanted to ask if anyone tried the breathing techniques and abdominal strengthening exercises? It's made a huge difference for me. I too was told I lookedmalnourished and that I was too skinny for my own body. I didn't start to see improvements, though, until I had lost the desired amount of fat and started toning. Very padded bras help keep the proportion, and you don't need a small ribcage to still look good. I got my big rib cage from my mom. But really try the ab and breathing techniques, my sister and fianc? have both asked me how I made my ribs smaller andI haven't gained a pound!

Jealousy Towards Partner Losing Weight? Advice?

It seems every time my obsessions over my weight pick up, everyone around me starts dropping pounds like crazy. That's just how life works, eh? Everyone around me is getting skinny, specifically my boyfriend, and I'm stuck. Has anybody ever started to feel disdain or jealousy towards their boyfriend or girlfriend for losing weight?

It's insane - I should be feeling happy for my boyfriend, whose weight fluctuates from 240-170 many times a year. He recently has dropped down to 170 again and is actively trying to lose even more, alongside myself. I feel increasingly jealous and suspicious about him, and find myself being way needier than I have ever felt. When he is complimented on his weight loss by friends or family, I feel angry at him. At times, I've even attempted to sabotage his weight loss or make him feel bad about his slimmer self.

I feel like a horrible girlfriend, how can I get over this?

Losing weight while training for half marathon

Hi,

I'm 16, 5'3.5 and weigh about 125-126. I know that this is a completely healthy weight but I'd like to lose 5-10 pounds. I'm training for a half marathon in October and I'm training three days a week. Tuesday easy run  of 4 miles, Thursday, speedwork 4 miles and Sunday long run. My miles per week increases by 10% every week. My longest distance yet is 7 miles. On the other days, I do NROLFW. I'm in stage 3 and I do that three days a week, usually lasting around 35-40 minutes. So I have one rest day a week.  It used to be very hard for me to lose weight. I used to eat between 1500-1600 calories a day and the scale did not budge. But I did some research and found that it's important to eat more to up your metabolism. So instead of following what CC says as a target calorie goal(which was a crazy low number of 1200, ugh) I used this calculator http://www.runnersworld.com/tools/daily-calories-calculator. It says that I burn about 2400 calories a day. So in order for me to lose a pound a week I should eat 1900 calories. Does this sound accurate for me? Should I be eating more or less?

Losing off chest and hips help

So I have 13 more pounds to go to reach my goal. Everything is good except nothing is moving off my chest and hips. I have been doing body weight and some weighted exercises as well as walking and have managed to lose about 17 lbs. I realize I'm an hourglass figure and can't shake that but really shouldn't I be losing everywhere?

Current stats: 39 (30i) -27-39 , 123 lbs 5'5" 36 yo

Yes my goal is 110 lbs, I have a very small frame with hypermobility and this weight was determined after discussing it with my doctor.  The extra weight compressed the discs in my lumbar area by 2". I've got most of my height back and working on the last half an inch.   I have most of my strength back as well.  But the weight still on my chest and hips are making it hard to get my posture back in shape.

I can't do really heavy lifting (45 lbs max) as I run the risk of dislocating something. Jogging and running are also out of the question until I get my chest size down a bit and can actually fit into a commercially made sports bra, though I would love to get back into it.

Is there anything I can do to encourage the weight to come off in those areas? I just don't want to get to 110 and be told I have to lose even more :( I really do like eating and as a first time dieter, counting calories sucks.

Will Losing Weight Help With Acne?

I've had moderately bad acne, and I'm just wondering if it would help clear up my face. I'm going to try and lose the weight either way, but I was just wondering if it would help or not.

Gaining Weight Not Losing It

I'm looking for a little insight. I've always been a bigger guy, more muscular and very little extra weight. I got in a relationship, well paying job, and started a family. Next thing I know, I'm 314 lbs. I seen a picture of myself taken by friends, and I was embarrassed. At that time I knew it was time for me to start losing weight.

I cut out the fast food, non healthy snacks, and sodas. Though, sometimes I give into temptation, I most certainly watch my portions. For the most part I've replaced my diet with more veggies, fiber, and less calorie foods/drinks.

Within the first week I lost 16 lbs and was down to 298. I felt great in so many ways, knowing my hard work was paying off with 6 days of exercise and the right foodsI knew that it wasn't always going to be that easy. But, I didn't give up. I've been working out in the gym not for 6 weeks, and I'm back up to 306. My girlfriend, says it looks like I've put on some extra muscle, and my arms and shoulders are looking more firm.

When I work out, I only do a little bit of strength (basic weight lifting, rowing) but mostly cardio (stationary bike, treadmill, elliptical for over an hour 5-6 days a week), stretches, and other small work outs like jumping jacks. When I can I take the stairs instead of the elevator. Looking at me no one can guess I way what I do. I just need some advice on what to do different, and what I'm doing wrong. I will be consulting a physician soon, but for now I wonder if there is someone out there that can help me.

My apologies in advance if this Topic is placed in the wrong area, and if it's a bit lengthy. Any advice and help would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance.

-Tre

losing 12 kg in a year....!!!! effortless

recently most people have been commenting that i have lost weight and need new clothes. i thought they were bluffing until i went to the Dr. for a medical and stepped on the scale and realise i have lost 12 kg!!! i went from 96 kg to 84!!! even better i have reduced my cholesterol level drastically without prescribed medication!! i feel better and i am no longer so bloated.

how? well its really all in the mind!!! i love my food but have been trying to lose the weight and have simply made life changes.

i pretty much have my treats but in moderation and since i hate exercising except walking..i walk to work and back home everyday...1 hour in total.

since i am vegetarian...my daily food comprise of

Breakfast

hot porridge for breakfast with skimmed milk and tablespoon of raisins or i have a large bananas with a small tub of plain yoghurt with raisins and a drizzle of honey

cup of rooibos or other herbal tea (im not a big fan of sugar so i normally have mine plain)

midday snack...

normally an apple or handful of nuts or an open top sandwhich (my favourite is cream cheese and water cress!)

Lunch

I normally bring my lunch to work....if not i usually get a small container of fried rice (asian), lentils and salad

i usual place my lunch in medium container and can range from pasta with spicy tomato sauce or coconut vegetable curry to morrocan vegetarian tajine. i use lots of spices and fresh produce. i always have a small tub of salad ...not a fan of dressing if i need though i normally make mine with some lime juice, olive oil, salt pepper and little garlic.

afternoon snack

i normally have an orange or a few oats or coconut biscuits ...i bake during the weekend and make them vegan,,,,,my hardcore meatloving colleagues love them too...cant tell the difference!!!

Evening

i prepare similar to lunch. but sometimes i have roasted vegetable wraps or thick soups with lots of chunky veg or i add a teaspoon of nuts.

small tub of plain yoghurt with a drizzle of honey or a few smashed frozen strawberries.

other points

water water water.....dont force yourself to gulp down too much water at once.

i fill up a litre bottle and sip gradually from morning until 12pm. then afternoon i get a new refill and sip until 4. that makes 2 litres already!!! when i get home i have a large glass...since i walk. and another one with my dinner!! pronto.

Treats

choose a day to make it your treat day....Friday is my treat day. no i dont go crazy....there are things i love..,.like cheese and the occasional luxury ice-cream. i still eat 75 % healthy on friday but i sneak in my treat and savour every bite.

Finally, remember....dont think of it as a diet,,,think of it as a lifestyle change and dont obsess....i have tried many diets before and have never stuck with them or could not tolerate their demands. i have made a lifestyle changes and on my way to my goal of being a curvy size 12. i was once size 20. now im almost a 14!!!

This will not work for everyone but can be helpful to others.

cheers and all the best

Losing 2 Pounds Per Week Help !!

I am 186-187 Pounds, 5 Feets 7 Inches, 15 Years Old.

My BMR is 1970.

I have been doing some calculations and i just need to verify them.

Ok my BMR is 1970, multiply by 1.2 (Sedentary) its around 2400 Calories.

If i exercise to burn 600 calories and i decide to eat near my BMR at 2000,

Then I have a Calorie Deficit of 1000 Calories right? Its 2 pounds.

Will this work?

P.S: I'm thinking about doing this 2 pounds per week till 30 days, then ill start on 1 pound per week ( don't tell me why I'm doing it first at 2 pounds, not your concern or business )

Losing 1 stone

Before starting my diet/fitness plan I weighed 141lbs. I have since lost 4lbs but aim to get back to my previous weight of 126lbs so still have 11lbs to lose. I have been following 1200 net kcals per day (without cutting out carbs etc) and doing 1 hour gym sessions 4 times a week. However, the past week I have lost no weight and the majority of my weight loss was in the first week. The lack of weight loss recently when working so hard is really demotivating.

I am looking for anyone who has experiences of losing weight at a similar size to myself and any tips or diets that have worked for you! Has anyone tried low carb diets and would these help give me a boost?

Thanks :)

Eating healthy is preventing me from losing weight.

Earlier this year I was 200 lbs and went down to 183 in about 2 months. Then I started making excuses when I got a cold for a few weeks (I don't take medicine). That's when I stopped working out. I quickly stopped eating healthy because I got a couple of wisdom teeth removed. These were all excuses and I ended up gaining more than what I was at earlier this year. :(

I'm having difficulties eating healthy. I feel too lazy to cook period. When I force myself to cook, I don't want to eat it because it doesn't taste good any more. I think going out and eating fast food nearly everyday has made me this way because I was eating healthy before. I haven't been working out much because to me diet and exercise go hand in hand. If I don't do one thing I can't do both; that's my mentality. I have no problem going out to work out but dieting has become extremely difficult.

I can't eat veggies anymore. I just don't like them. But what do you guys think I should do? I was thinking about eating a low carb diet like this:

Breaktfast: Oatmeal (oats + milk)
Lunch: Eggs + Fruit
Snack: Peanut Butter Sandwich
Meal 1: Eggs + Chicken Thigh Meat
Meal 2: Eggs + Chicken Thigh Meat

I'm still not sure if I'd get full or anything or if I would really like eating that many eggs. But I do eat eggs every single day though. I can't find anything I'll like eating. I need some help.

Recovery Motivation (Losing Hope)Binge

(I've posted this already tonight, but I'm new and a bit confused as to where this even belongs)

Hey everyone, thank you so much for reading this <3

I suppose this is the first time I've had a voice throughout my entire battle.

So,I guess I have an eating disorder. Though this has never been diagnosed so I can't really label myself. I'm pretty clued up though, as my sister almost died hooked up to a life support machine after fighting anorexia for all of my childhood. My brother is a nutritionalist so certain products like bread don't often appear in the house and my mum has always been a weight loss addict. She goes to the gym every night and has dropped 4 dress sizes in the past few months. My earliest memories of food consist of my sister force feeding me sandwhiches and giving me chocolate bars in bed so they melted all over me whilst I slept, my mum 'being good' and not eating sweets and her hiding the crisps so I couldn't reach them. Man I loved crisps.

(My background?: I'm 17 5 ft 8 and 46kg (though more now I guess) A-Level stress was my first trigger, after eating close to nothing almost every day for 8 months and spiralling into deeper and deeper depression I lost 22kg of weight, I lost my period, I lost my friends but worst of all I almost lost my parents and I couldn't put them through what my sister did so 2 months ago I made the decision to recover.

I've been eating more, I've been eating healthily, I've been exercising lightly. But today everything went wrong. :(  We were doing a bakesale to raise money (for my trip to Africa to help build a school and teach this summer) but I just lost control. I ate all day. We're talking buns, spoons of golden syrup, raisins, nuts, bags of chocolate, chocolate chips, bowls of butter cream icing, biscuits, crisps,pizza,cereal,fudge,sweets. 5000+ calories. I even starting hiding in the kitchen to eat it, because even though usually I make a point of eating infront of my parents this was just embarrassing and would probably scare them as much as not eating did. I was just like a robot. I wasn't hungry, I kept putting the bags down, walking away, but I just came back and carried on. ''If its gone I can't do it tomorrow'. I didn't feel guilty at the time, I just felt empty? My stomach is in so much pain and my unnamed anorexic self is screaming in my head that I'm a failure, that I'm going to gain loads of weight and I don't need to.

(side note) I still kind of look in the mirror and wonder if I do need to gain weight though, as my friends are all as thin as me and they skip meals and eat super healthily all the time, which makes things harder, especially as I haven't been diagnosed. I haven't really talked to anyone about this since it all started, though I guess they must have noticed as at first i was getting compliments.

Then I remember that I still don't have my period back. I don't know I'm just lost. Am I a binge eater now? Have I moved onto another level? This isn't my first binge over the past few weeks. I don't know if I can handle the guilt, tonight I feel like I might aswell just go back to restricting as its so much easier than this feeling of pain and weakness :(

I guess I just need some motivation, reasons to gain weight?
Fun things about recovery? Because this isn't fun. My stomach hurts so much :(

Has this ever happened to you guys before? I crave bad things so badly these days, especially at night time. I feel like as I only restricted for a year I don't count in all these posts about 'recovery' do I even need to eat all those calories to repair myself?

I have binged before (though never quite this much) but I don't wake up in the night sweating like other people say they do so I doubt my metabolism is fast.

I know I will have gained a bunch of weight from tonight, I know I need to, but itshard to remind myself that. I couldn't handle being a binger, I don't purge as my gag reflex has always been weak so that makes me becoming a bulimic unlikely but this guilt is almost just as bad. Even when i don't feel guilty about the food, I feel guilty about not feeling guilty. its hard to explain :(

What's been recovered like?Is it worth this?

I'm not this bad every day I swear, I'm just having a bad night and needed some support! I'm sorry if none of that made sense.

Again thank you, I hope with all my heart, that you are all feeling strong and your lives are full of love and purpose.

x

Need help losing 5 lbs! PLEASE READ

Hello all,

I'm 5'5, 130, female and having a hard time losing 5 lbs. I have a TINY frame...ex my bra band is 28/30. So I can lose 5, probably more but 5 would be perfect! I have been stuck at 130 ish forever! My main thing is my stomach. It is not flat. I don't expect it to be super flat, but I do expect it to be bikini ready ( you get the idea) with all of the hard work I've put in. Also, my thighs could slim down a tad.

I work out but my workouts vary. I only do cardio right now as I did begin weight loss in a gym but no longer have a membership. I'll be getting it back like now though. Should I stop running until I'm able to get back in the gym and lift weights to build muscle to burn?

I jog about 4-5 miles usually burning 400 ish cals a few times/ wk. I'd say 4 tx/wk. so about 15 miles/ wk to be conservative. Think a school track, where im running 4 laps= 1 mile in about 9 mins so not super fast at all. But I'm thinking that maybe I eat too much? I eat about 1800 on a good day, regardless of exercise and about 2300 normally. I don't know if it's me being on this new birth control or what, but while I've always had a healthy appetite, it is huge now and growing. How many cals should I be consuming on workout days vs. non- workout days? Am I eating too much? My diet is balanced btw, and I eat normal amts of everything ( carbs, fats, etc).

Please help guys! Thanks

Will I eventually stop losing weight? 800 - 900 calories a day?

I'm 5'9 and 115 lbs.
Last year, at this time, I was 164lbs.

I've been eating 800 - 900 calories a day but ALL nutritious foods. Clearly I keep losing weight but I want to stop losing weight now and start maintaining.
The problem is I HATE eating. It's a chore to me and I don't enjoy it.

But what I really want to know is: what will happen if I continue to eat only 800 - 900 calories a day? Will I lose so much weight I could eventually be really sick and 70 lbs, or will I eventually stop..?

Losing Weight While Injured

I recently tore my meniscus, and I need surgery following by crutches and physical therapy.

I used to play intensive sports three hours a day, every day of the week so calories and exercising were never really a huge problem for me.

Just within the past week that I've been off of exercise, I've gained a lot of weight and I almost feel myself losing muscle (maybe its all just psychological ;P) But still, if anyone has any tips for exercising, losing weight, or maintaining muscle while injured, please share!

So you want to lose weight, get healthier, and set a good example for your kids. That’s fantastic! How do you balance eating right, getting enough exercise, and the demands of being a parent? Here’s how you can break it down and tackle it. There are three rules:

Food: Plan ahead Exercise: Think small Parenting: Get the whole family involved

Time is the most precious commodity for parents. So when you make any change, you want to set yourself up for success -- break it into small goals. With small goals, you’re more likely to be able to make changes, stick with them, and build upon your successes.

With food, you have to eliminate the dilemma of making decisions on the fly. When we’re rushed and stressed, our decision-making abilities can suffer.

We’ve all been there: "Ack! Only 15 minutes before the kids have to be at soccer! ... Well, the kids have to eat. We only have time for a drive-through snack."

Outsmart your unhealthy habits. Make making a healthy decision easier, say experts.

Food: Plan Ahead

"Prepare a list of dinners during the week and shop ahead," says Jessica Crandall, a registered dietitian and spokesperson for the Academy of Dietetics and Nutrition. "If you plan ahead and make sure there's healthy food around, you're more likely to follow through."

Keep these tips in mind when you're making your grocery list:

Serve a salad before dinner. "It's good nutrition and cuts calories," Crandall says. Grab some prewashed bag or bin salads.

Keep healthy snacks around the house. It’s a lot harder to eat junk food like chips and cookies if they are not in your cupboard. Cut the temptation and stock up on healthy snacks instead.

Keep carrot sticks to dip in cottage cheese spiced with herbs or Ranch flavor. Have half a sliced turkey and veggie sandwich on one slice of whole-grain bread. Make your own trail mix and put 1/4 servings in baggies to grab-n-go. You’ll need: nuts, whole-grain cereal, mini pretzels, and dried fruit. Or whip up some healthy snack bars with whole grains and fruit. These travel well, too.

Plan for your habits.  If you tend to grab something at the drive-through when you're in a rush, try carrying healthier fast food.

Now’s the time for that trail mix or those snack bars to come to the rescue. Fruits and vegetables are also portable and fast. They’re fast and high-fiber, so they will fill you up longer than a lot of processed snacks like chips, says Crandall. When you get home from the store, wash veggies like snap peas or cherry tomatoes and pack them in to-go baggies. Have them instead of fries when you’re craving crunch to avoid unhealthy saturated fats.

Losing Weight May Ease Chronic Heartburn

Study found shedding pounds reduced GERD symptoms among overweight, obese patients

By Kathleen Doheny

HealthDay Reporter

MONDAY, May 20 (HealthDay News) -- Obese and overweight men and women who suffer from heartburn often report relief when they lose weight, a new study shows.

The researchers tracked the effects of weight loss over a year in patients who had a persistent form of heartburn known as gastroesophageal reflux, or GERD.

"If you lose weight, you will have improvements in your reflux symptoms," said study author Dr. Preetika Sinh, a gastroenterology fellow at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. In women, but not men, long-term exercise also helped reduce symptoms, she added.

Sinh was scheduled to present the findings Monday at the Digestive Disease Week annual meeting in Orlando, Fla.

Previous research also has linked weight loss with a decline in GERD symptoms.

Heartburn, or acid indigestion, is very common, with more than 60 million Americans having it at least once a month, according to the American College of Gastroenterology. Stomach acid flows backward up into the esophagus, and the burn begins.

GERD, the more frequent, chronic form of heartburn, can lead to complications if left untreated, including a narrowing of the esophagus or precancerous changes in the esophageal lining.

Sinh evaluated more than 200 men and women with an average age of 46. At the start of the study, all were overweight or obese, with an average weight of 220 pounds.

At the beginning of the study, 38 percent had heartburn scores severe enough to be classified as GERD. After six months, the patients' average weight decreased to 183 pounds, and only 16 percent still had GERD.

During the next six months, 172 of the patients regained weight, and the percentage of those with heartburn increased again, from 16 percent to 22 percent. Even a small amount of weight gain -- less than 5 percent of their initial weight -- led to worsening symptoms, Sinh found.

Sinh then focused on the 41 patients who didn't regain their weight and found that the percentage with heartburn continued to decline and the symptoms continued to improve.

As part of the weight-loss program, the patients were told to aim for five hours a week of moderate activity such as walking or jogging. The average amount logged was a little less than four hours, Sinh said.

In women, but not men, the exercise also helped to improve heartburn.

Sinh said she can't explain the mechanisms behind either the weight loss or the exercise, or why the exercise seemed to help only women. Although the study found a link between weight loss, exercise and GERD, it did not establish a cause-and-effect relationship.

While the use of heartburn medications is common, Sinh said she can't say if the men and women improved enough to go off medication, since she didn't track those results. Only about 5 percent of the men and women were on heartburn medications in the first place, she said.

have anyone tried losing weight by eating lean meat ONLY right after PERIODS/MENSES?

Recently I haven't been here for a whole because I'm trying other weight losing solutions. I tried eating only lean meat without fats and carbs, eggs and 0 fat milk for 5 days after MENSES/PERIOD and I LOST 6 POUNDS WITHIN THESE 5 DAYS.

I just did a few physical exercises.

according to the suggested 10 days weight-losing Programme, the next five days should eat half lean meat half vegetables, and better following with 2 vegan days. Have anyone tried it? It works wonder for me and I'm going to do it again a few days later.
