seem to be gaining on not a very large amount of food...help??!!

I'm not sure if it's just me, but from reading what other people seem to eat, in comparison, mine seems to be less, but yet i'm still gaining? I know it differs from person to person, but still.....if they say you need 2000-3000 to gain, at most i'm only getting like 1800???

here's today, anyway:

B: 30g granola with alpro almond milk, 250ml orange juice and 1 piece of brown toast with bertolli

S: Strawberries

L: 6 pieces of fish sushi, salad, orange, 125g fruit yogurt pot

S: McDonald's small fries + ketchup

D: 80g roasted pork, 3 pre-made roast potatoes, at least 3 cups of steamed mixed veg ( I like veg (: broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, etc) and a petit filous yogurt

S: Options instant hot chocolate, frozen berries and 100g l/f natural yogurt

any advice will help!

so the website says my caloric intake should be 1600 calories a day to lose wieght im only eating 1200 and have been losing on this calorie intake but i workout hardcore 7 days a week and burn about 400 and recently have found myself hungerier as the days go by i want to up my intake to 1600 but im scared its just going to make me gain instead of lose idk how to get over the fear of going above 1200 and eat 1600 please no negative comments i just want people with good intentions to comment to give you a break down of my days 

breakfast 

banana 105 calories

better'n peanut butter 100 calories

lunch 

turkey sandwich with whole wheat bread turkey lettuce and a orange 340 calories

snack tuna and crackers 200 calories

dinner homemade pizza 400 calories

i would like to add another banana to that and some more peanut butter that would add a extra 200 calories but i feel like it would just make me fat!

Should I gain?

I used to be frequent on here but not so much anymore. Im 14 and I have anorexia. I gained from 88 to where I am now at 111. Im 5'6.5 so Im still underweight. I was eating 3000+ from November from about a month. But I stopped because I thought I was binging. I gained and lost from then to about March. Where I sit at 111. I dont know if I should gain the last amount. I drink alot of water before my appointments so my doctor thinks I weigh 117. What should I do? and if I should gain how many calories hould I be eating?

P.S In the last 3 months I have also developed bulimia, nobody knows that though

Understanding Calcium: Supplements, Calcium Carbonate, Calcium Citrate, and More

Experts share their advice about what to consider when choosing a calcium supplement.

Are you getting enough calcium in your diet? Maybe not, especially if you're a woman or a teenage girl. Although Americans have improved at this in recent years, we're still not getting enough calcium to maintain our bone health.

How much is that? It depends on your age. According to the Institute of Medicine, the recommended daily amount of calcium to get is:

1-3 years: 700 milligrams daily4-8 years: 1,000 milligrams daily9-18 years: 1,300 milligrams daily19-50 years: 1,000 milligrams daily51-70 years: 1,200 milligrams daily for women; 1,000 milligrams daily for men71 and older: 1,200 milligrams daily

The Institute of Medicine says that most in the U.S. get enough calcium, except for girls 9 to 18 years old. Although women’s recommended calcium needs to increase with menopause, postmenopausal woman taking supplements may also be at greater risk of getting too much calcium.

"We know that peak bone mass occurs around age 30, so it's very important in childhood and adolescence to have a healthy intake of calcium early on," says Marcy B. Bolster, MD. She is a professor of medicine in the division of rheumatology and immunology at the Medical University of South Carolina and director of the MUSC Center for Osteoporosis and Bone Health.

"After age 30, we start to gradually lose bone, and that loss accelerates for women at the time of menopause. So it's very important to stave off bone loss with adequate calcium intake."

Your health care provider may recommend calcium supplements. But with so many choices of calcium supplements, where should you start? Here's what you need to know.

"I tell my patients to take the kind that they tolerate best and is least expensive," Bolster says. She says she recommends calcium carbonate because "it's inexpensive, won't cause discomfort, and is a good source of calcium."

Some people's bodies may have problems making enough stomach acid, or may be taking medications that suppress acid production. For them, says J. Edward Puzas, MD, a calcium citrate supplement might be better because it "dissolves a little better than calcium carbonate for these people." Puzas is a professor of orthopedics and director of orthopedic research at the University of Rochester Medical Center in New York.

What about other types of supplements, like calcium plus magnesium, coral calcium, and so on? Not necessary, the experts tell WebMD. But they note that supplements that combine calcium with vitamin D -- which is essential for the body to appropriately absorb calcium -- provide an added benefit.

The body can absorb only about 500 milligrams of a calcium supplement at any one time, says Puzas, so you can't just down a 1000-mg supplement first thing in the morning and call it a day.

Instead, split your dose into two or three servings a day. "The best way to take it is with a meal; calcium is absorbed better that way," Puzas says. If your daily diet includes calcium-containing foods and drinks, you may not need multiple doses.

Perpetually eating too many vitamins!

HI. So, every day my analysis tells me that I am eating too much vitamin A, vitamin C, and fiber. This frustrates me. What am I to eat? I am vegan, so my diet?consists of primarily fr uits, vegetables, nuts, legumes, and whole grains. I don't understand and also don't want my body to receive negative effects due to my diet. Help?

I went to visit my doctor today to ask him about weight loss. His answer was, "if you could split one meal into 2 you will lose weight very fast!" Really? So just two meals a day and I'm good? What about eating at least your Bmr?

fluid intake - quick question

sorry if this is posted in the wrong topic area, but i just have a very quick question about fluid intake:

do all fluids count toward 'water' intake, or is just WATER consumed that day?

i juice a lot of fruits & veggies, as well as drink a lot of milk, & i'm not sure if i am able to document those under BOTH calorie intake AND fluid (up to now i've just been documenting as calories).  

i struggle getting 8 - 8oz glasses of water every day.

Simponi Approved for Ulcerative Colitis

Blocks process that contributes to abnormal inflammation

WEDNESDAY, May 15 (HealthDay News) -- Simponi (golimumab) injection has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat adults with moderate-to-severe ulcerative colitis.

The drug is designed to block tumor necrosis factor, which has a key role in causing abnormal inflammation and immune system responses, the FDA said Wednesday in a news release.

The drug has already been approved to treat psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis, the agency said.

Ulcerative colitis, affecting some 620,000 Americans, causes chronic inflammation and ulcers in the inner lining of the large intestine. Common symptoms include abdominal discomfort, gastrointestinal bleeding and diarrhea.

Simponi was clinically evaluated in two studies involving more than 800 people. The most common side effects reported were upper respiratory infection and redness at the injection site. People treated with the drug are at greater-than-average risk of contracting several types of infection, lymphoma, heart failure, nervous system disorders and allergic reactions, the FDA said.

The drug is marketed by Janssen Biotech Inc., based in Horsham, Pa.

Recovery irritation(Kinda ranty)

Okay so yeah, first post here n junk. Just so it's known, I'm a guy.  I've been forced into recovery by my parents and well yeah, kinda stinks. I can't really talk to anyone about my eating disorder coz my Mom makes me feel like s*** and my Dad may as well be gone. My therapist says she's trying to help me but every time I leave I feel worse about myself(not to mention triggered as f***.) and when I tell my parents they don't seem to care. Today really s***ed because I started noticing waist fat(Yes fat, it was jiggling when I walked). I'm on my second month of 'recovery' and feel worse about myself than ever. The scale was thrown out of my house(My parents finally did it, I found it 3 times after they said they were throwing it out, the third time they actually threw it out(I think, but I can't say for sure)) but I found an alternative means of weighing myself. I don't really want to recover and there is no way in the world that I'm going to weigh more than I did before restricting, if that day comes(My parents agreed they would not make me gain past that point) I swear I'll drop back down to 95 in 2 weeks(I was at 122 before dieting(I know I can do it since I lost 30 lbs in a month)).

To sum it up: recovery is kinda harsh, and I'm eating until I'm sick(And my parents know) and throwing up(Not intentionally). So bluh, upsetness...

Sorry about all the *** stuff, just getting my point across

But one of her all-time favorite moves goes all the way back to her University of Connecticut days: The classic Wall Sit, that genius do-anywhere exercise that works your quads, glutes and core.

"In college, we'd compete to be the last woman standing," says Cash. "Your knees will turn to jelly and you'll eventually break, but it's really more of a mental challenge." And we'll be the first to agree she isn't one to throw in the towel early--then or now. "I'm always part of the 'last women standing' crew. We don't break!"

Lean up against a wall with your feet shoulder-width apart. Slide down the wall so your legs are bent at a 90-degree angle. Got knee problems? Come up a bit higher against the wall to take pressure off those joints. If you're a beginner, start off by holding for 15 seconds. Take a 15 second break. Repeat 4 times. For a more challenging iteration, hold for 30 second sets and work your way up until you can do 60 seconds at a time.

Healthy Lifestyle May Offset Job Stress, Study Finds

MONDAY, May 13 (HealthDay News) -- Job stress increases the risk of heart disease, but living a healthy lifestyle can significantly reduce that risk, a new study says.

Researchers examined data from more than 102,000 men and women, aged 17 to 70, in the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Sweden and Finland. Their lifestyles were rated in one of three categories -- healthy, moderately unhealthy or unhealthy -- based on smoking, alcohol consumption, exercise/inactivity and obesity.

Those with a healthy lifestyle had no lifestyle risk factors, while people with a moderately unhealthy lifestyle had one risk factor. Two or more risk factors qualified as an unhealthy lifestyle.

Nearly 16 percent of the participants reported job stress, according to the study, which was published May 13 in the Canadian Medical Association Journal.

Over 10 years, the rate of coronary artery disease was 18.4 per 1,000 for people with job stress and 14.7 per 1,000 for those without job stress. The rate of heart disease for people with an unhealthy lifestyle was almost 31 per 1,000 compared to 12 per 1,000 for those with a healthy lifestyle.

When lifestyle and work were factored together, the heart disease rate was 31.2 per 1,000 for people with job stress and an unhealthy lifestyle and about 15 per 1,000 for those with job stress and a healthy lifestyle.

"The risk of coronary artery disease was highest among participants who reported job strain and an unhealthy lifestyle; those with job strain and a healthy lifestyle had about half the rate of this disease," Dr. Mika Kivimaki, of the department of epidemiology and public health at University College London, and colleagues wrote in a journal news release.

"These observational data suggest that a healthy lifestyle could substantially reduce the risk of coronary artery disease risk among people with job strain," they added.

Stress counseling isn't enough, they said. "Clinicians might consider paying closer attention to lifestyle risk factors in patients who report job strain," the researchers concluded.

Beauty 411: Makeup Primers

Think of these products like the primer you'd use for painting a house. The goal is the same: to fill in any bumps, lumps, and uneven spots so that whatever you put on next starts on a smooth, even surface. In the case of your face, that would be concealer, foundation, or powder.

Many women find primers to be especially useful around the eyes, where fine lines can become more prominent when makeup settles into the crevices, as well as in areas with enlarged pores. When you use a primer on areas that tend to be oily, like the eyelid, makeup tends to adhere better and last longer. Also, a thin layer of primer all over can help makeup stay put.

Another primer perk: Whether your skin is oily or dry, acne-prone or sensitive, you can use a primer, since the moisture it imparts comes via silicone, not oil.

Apply these products sparingly. Less definitely is more. After you apply sunscreen and a moisturizer, then comes the primer. Use your finger to apply only the thinnest dabs around your trouble spots. This way, you create a very fine film, but you can blend it out as far as you like.

Finally, because primers have staying power, be diligent about washing your face well each night. Consider an electronic cleansing brush, which gently but effectively gets your face squeaky clean. But any cleanser and water will work, too.
