I Sometimes Eat Too Many Calories! Help.

Hi!

Long story short: I recently lost tons of weight... in 1 or 2 months. I worked out hard and ate small portions (counted calories). I fell in love with the new me. After my weight loss I felt the urge to eat. and eat. ...and eat! I began craving things I never even had when I was over weight! Like cookies, cakes, brownies, ice cream, etc. I gained about 10 pounds. I developed gastritis. Horrible experience!! I went to the doctor and finally got it taken care of. I am now at a healthy weight and maintain eating right and exercising regularly. HOWEVER sometimes (usually weekends or when I'm home alone) I binge eat like crazy! I'm not even hungry! I eat simply for pleasure or if I get bored. I ALWAYS consider calories when eating and most of the time, I eat less than than what I should. I have a feeling it's a mental thing but seriously, if I eat a meal that is 300 calories or over, I freak out! I should be eating 1,700ish but I feel like I should never pass above 1,200. If I can keep it under 1,000 - the better! I have a feeling this is why after my long day at work/school I just want to eat and eat! When this happens I don't give a **** about calories. (sorry about that) Afterwards I feel bad, guilty, and ...fat (the worst feeling). I hate it! But I seriously don't know what to do! Can anyone help!??

Also, when this does happen, is it safe to workout the same day/night? Or would it be best to wait until morning. I just hate going to bed feeling all the bad stuff that went into my stomach.

PLEASE HELP! Thanks a bunch Laughing

How many calories? How many meals? Help?

Hi! I'm a 19 year-old female, and I weigh 210 lbs. I'm a pescetarian, and I also live a sedentary lifestyle at the moment. I don't drink soda; the most "unhealthy" thing I drink is Crystal Light Iced Tea once every other day. I try to drink water often, but I rarely hit the 8 cup or more mark. My TDEE is 2200 cals a day, and my BMR is 1765.9. My goal weight is roughly 130~120, but I know that I will stop losing and start maintaining once I feel and look healthy.

The real questions are:

Is 1200~1400 enough to lose at least 2 lbs per week considering my weight and sedentary lifestyle?

How often do I eat?

Thank you. :) I'm hoping one day I can hit my goal weight and love myself even more then I do now.

Constipation after increased calories

Hi. I know that this has been asked many times before. But can I deal with ED recovery constipation without taking fibre supplements or laxatives?

I have been on an increased calorie diet for 3 weeks. Approximately 2000cals a day. I eat an average of 2 servings each of fruit and vegetables every day. I get an average of 23g fibre, 60g fat and 60g protein per day. Admittedly, my dietary fat comes from less-than-ideal sources such as chocolates and biscuits.

I usually go to the bathroom at least once a day. But I have been having gas cramps the past few days and keep feeling like I need the toilet today but nothing will come out...? It's rather annoying to feel like I need a poo but I can't have a poo! Any advice?

Too many carbs , too few calories

I used to restrictive eat last year and lost a lot of weight then I started overeating and gained a lot back. Now I'm trying to lose it again. I'm finding that my willpower is less than it used to be which sucks. I cry a lot of the time because I used to fear gaining weight and now I have and I feel so upset with myself. I'm only 16 I know I shouldn't feel like this but I do.

On days I don't cheat and overeat, I only eat around 800 calories and 150 carbs. I stop at 150 because if I eat like 170 it says it's too much.

Should I eat 1200 calories a day and not pay attention to the carbs as long as they're not coming from junk or no?

Also, how do I develop a stronger willpower? I find myself keeping occupied then something triggers me while I'm doing the pre-occupy thing and I binge. :/

All help is appreciated.

Calories for weight loss?

Ok so over the last 6 months I have piled on some kilos, due in large part to being in a new relationship. On any day my weight can be between 53-57 kilos at 162 cm. (18 female) I wish to get back down to 50 kilos as soon as possible.

I exercise at the very least 5 times a week usually its a about 6-7 times. So exercise is not really an issue, I run 8 kilometers everyday (except for the occasional weekend) and I do two hours of Irish dancing on a Monday night, two hours of basketball training on a Tuesday and a basketball game on a Friday.

If I follow a diet similar to today, can I expect to see results soon:

Breakfast: Porridge

Ms. Yoghurt

Lunch. Jam sandwich on wholemeal bread (no butter) and an apple

As. Banana

Dinner. Chilli con carne.

cutting calories

If you limit yourself to 1900 calories a day, does the food you eat matter as long as you're only eating 1900 a day?

Any petite girls here eating over 2000 calories?

I've been reading on here how many calories petite women should eat and many posts are below 2000 calories. I feel like I am the only petite person eating 2000-2500 calories a day...I am 5'2", 110 lbs, 21 years old, no muscle. So I just want to know who else is eating this much in a day?

Clearly I would like to lose a bit more but now I am kind of scared of gaining weight eating this much but when I eat less, I get starved. Also I get hunger pains in my stomach every half hour or full hour so I have to eat...it sucks!

Teen Boys: Building Muscle Tips, Calories, Exercise, and More

What to do -- and not do -- to build up your muscles.By Eric Metcalf, MPH
WebMD Feature

The football players, pro wrestlers, and MMA fighters you see on television may be packing serious muscle. But if you’re a guy in your teens, you have some body-building advantages they would love to have.

During your teen years, you’re in a phase of your life when your body wants to grow. You’re churning out hormones that are specially designed to help you get bigger. And right now you may be able to take in a huge amount of food and use it to build a strong body.

Teen Boys and Abstinence

It may seem like everyone at school is doing it -- or talking about doing it. Add to it the increasing talk of sex on TV and in movies and you probably feel like the only person waiting to have sex. But, you are not alone. More than one half of high school teens have not had sex, according to recent surveys. In fact, many teens are choosing abstinence (not having sexual intercourse) until they are older and in long-term, committed relationships. Deciding to have sex is a very personal decision...

Read the Teen Boys and Abstinence article > >

But it's easy to make mistakes in your quest for muscle. Here's how to avoid those errors.

Following these steps will help you give your muscles the exercise and the fuel they need to get bigger.

1. Get a checkup. If you’re new to exercise or you have any health issues -- especially heart problems or conditions that affect your muscles or joints -- get a physical exam by your doctor or other health care provider before you start a muscle-building program.

2. Skip the shortcuts. As you’re starting on your path to bigger muscles, focus on the basics, says Shawn Arent, PhD, a certified strength and conditioning specialist and associate professor at Rutgers University in New Jersey. Spend your energy working out and eating right -- not chasing fancy supplements. And don’t even think about using steroids, he says. They can do serious damage to your body now and in the long run.You don't need steroids to build better muscles. During puberty, your body naturally pumps out testosterone. This hormone encourages your muscles to grow, says William Roberts, MD, a professor of family medicine and a youth fitness expert at the University of Minnesota.

3. Build a solid program. When you're starting out, avoid tossing together bits and pieces of different weight-lifting programs you see in magazines, Arent says. Instead, build a basic core program that includes the bench press (for your chest), squats (legs), deadlift (legs and back), and shoulder press (shoulders and upper back). As you master these, or you start playing a sport that requires specific strengths, you can add more complex lifts.

4. Get enough calories. Do your parents give you a hard time about eating so much? If you’re training hard, politely ask them to give it a rest, says Roberta Anding, RD, a dietitian who works with athletes ranging from high schoolers to the Houston Astros and the Houston Texans. You need calories for growth and performance!

As a growing, active guy, you may need about 3,000 calories or more each day. Anding's tips:

Eat breakfast every day.Get plenty of carbohydrates (carbs) from foods such as whole-grain bread, fruits, and milk. This way, your body has carbs to burn for fuel so it can save the protein you eat for muscle-building.If you’re hungry late in the evening, have a snack. But…Set your sights higher than fast food and candy. “You don’t create a Lamborghini body and put regular gas in it," Anding says. "You’re going to go with the high-octane stuff. Your body is no different.” Choose real food, not junk food.

5. Feed your muscles when they’re hungry. Another muscle-building hormone your body makes is insulin, Anding says. It makes your muscles soak up sugar, proteins, and other things that make them bigger and stronger.

Insulin is extra-effective right after a workout. So within 30 minutes after a workout, eat a blend of carbs and protein. Some options:

Peanut butter and jelly sandwichTurkey sandwichTrail mixSmoothie made with yogurt and fruitA carbs-and-protein bar

But too much protein can harm the body and have serious effects on your kidneys. So don’t eat too much of it.

question about muscle building and calories needed

i am at a healthy weight that I want to maintain but I am starting a heavy lifting regime so I can convert the fat into muscle. In order to do this successfully, do I need to be eating maintenance calories or a weight loss amount? Logically I would think it would be maintenance but I am not totally sure how this works.

Chopped Kale? Calories?

Hi there,

Probably such a silly question, but I know if I don't ask it will bother me. Today I find organic frozen chopped kale at Costco for 5$ (it's usually $3 for a non organic small bunch here when we have it). Naturally I had to buy it. I've been adding it to smoothies, salads, boiled with rice etc.

However, today when I looked at the bag it said that it had 60 calories a cup & 3 grams of fiber. However, calorie count says that one cup of chopped frozen kale is about 34 calories. So that is almost double. Now I know no one gets fat off of kale, however when I am eating/boiling 3 or 4 cups at a time, the calories can add up.

The ingredients just say "100% organic chopped kale"

So do I log it as 60 calories or as 34 calories

Question regarding my activity level and calories needed

Hey everyone!

When I go to college, I had free access to the pretty nice campus gym, so I would workout 4 days a week.  Usually over the summer I get a gym membership.  I have a busy job, however.  I work at Chipotle (its a mexican fast food type restaurant) and it is VERY busy.  I work 40 hours a week but my shift is usually 4 to midnight closing.

I was going to purchase my gym membership, but I was pretty hesitant to do it because I don't have much spare time outside of work, it costs a decent amount, and I actually am so exhausted after work I wonder how many calories I am actually burning.

I was just wondering if you think my job is exercise enough, or if I should increase it.  I don't know if I should even count it as exercise, but it sure as hell feels like I'm getting a workout.  My legs ache the next day.  I work 8 hour shifts and i get one half hour break.  The rest of the time I am serving customers in mass amounts quickly as possible, frantically making burritos.  And I usually close, so that involves scrubbing the tortilla and quesadilla press clean and cleaning out the food wells, doing dishes, etc.

I am a 5 foot 9, 20 year old female weighing in at 135 pounds.  I was just wondering what others input is.  Am I fooling myself by telling myself I'm burning a significant amount of calories and that work is a workout, or am I not giving myself enough credit?  How many calories do you think I should eat, what do you think my activity level is?  Help!

Thank you for your time!

Light Exercise & Higher Calories...

The past few days I've been eating 2100 calories, and exercising a lot less than before. I wanted to see if I could maintain with more food and less exercise.

I'm now losing weight on 2100. I'm 5'5" or 5'6"...I think. I keep getting taller lately. But on the teen calculators it says that for light activity I should eat around 1800.

Do you think that I've sped up my metabolism? Or do you think this is just going to last for a couple of days, and I should keep at 2100?

I'm going to see my doctor again soon , and I think it's going to cause a lot of problems if my doctor sees that I'm still losing.
