Olivia Wilde at the ASMALLWORLD Relaunch Weekend in Morocco
Also in attendance at the ASMALLWORLD Relaunch Weekend in Morocco, was gap yah student Olivia Wilde. Oh, sorry, wait: we meant Hollywood star Olivia Wilde. So easy to confuse the two in this image. Hmm. Anyhoo. The actress was seen to be letting loose at the bash as she channelled her inner Britney Spears and walked around the party with a snake draped over her shouders.

Weekend Project! DIY Waterproof Coasters
Meet one of SELF's Editorial Assistants, Alyssa. When's she not scoping out the latest pop culture trends for our Entertainment department, Alyssa can usually be found DIYing. We tap into her craftiness to find out what she's whipping up every week.
As I get older (and yes, I know 23 isn't really "old"), I go through more and more life stages with my friends -- and right now, we're all heavily into the "moving out" phase.
With so many apartment-warming parties to go to, I needed a few unique gift options (Because really, how many tea kettles does one apartment need?), and these DIY photo coasters seemed like the perfect solution. You can take creative license with these and use whatever image you want -- one ripped out of a magazine, printed off a camera, or in my case, a few of your Instagram photos. (We love the site Prinstagram for printing ours!)
You'll need:
4 plain coasters (we got ours for under $8 at Crate and Barrel)Mod Podge in "Glossy"A sponge brushClear Acrylic gloss spray
Trim your photos to the size of the coasters, making the image end slightly before the edges of the coaster. Coat the back of your chosen photo with a generous dose of Mod Podge (but not too much -- you want it to dry, after all!).

Let the Mod Podge dry for about 15 seconds, then place your coaster over the photo and press gently, adhering it to the sticky side of the photo. Allow it to dry for at least 20 minutes without picking it up (Patience, students.)
One the photo is applied to the coaster, it's time to topcoat. You're going to want to coat the image and coaster with at least three coats of Mod Podge, allowing it to dry for 15 minutes (or until clear) between coats.
Once the final coat has dried, spray all of the coasters with a clear acrylic gloss spray, which ensures that they're waterproof/drink proof. Because you know you'll be putting a few margaritas on these babies!

Give Yourself a Lifestyle Makeover This Weekend
Ever wish you had more time for self-improvement? Authors Jill Martin (a regular style contributor for the TODAY Show) and Dana Ravich prove that you don't need a year, a month or even a week to make positive steps to improve your life -- all you need is a weekend. Their new book, The Weekend Makeover, hits shelves on Tuesday, March 26th, guides you through steps to improve and refocus many areas of your life, exclusive from Friday night through Sunday supper.
If you're like me, you barely have time for yourself during the week, so weekends are a time to play catch up on you-time. That's the concept behind The Weekend Makeover and we are so jumping on board to "get a brand new life by Monday morning." Check out a few of Jill and Dana's must-have tips.
Makeover Your Diet: Martin recommends always asking other people for their diet tips (Have you signed up for Drop 10 yet?) and tricks to build your own pile of knowledge. A tip she gleaned from her TODAY Show colleague, nutritionist Joy Bauer? Mix plain Greek yogurt with a pack of sugar-free hot cocoa. Instant chocolate pudding that fills you up, not out. YUM.
Makeover Your Workouts: Use Sunday afternoons to schedule your workouts for the next week, like you would your meals. To really stick to a work out plan, you need to actually HAVE a plan, and that takes time, so map it out and put them in your calendar.
Makeover Your Closet: Purge, purge, purge! At the end of the weekend, make sure every item in your closet fits your lifestyle, age, personality and locale. Plus, every piece needs to be in great condition and you need to actually wear it. (Sorry, last season's trendy top!) Martin also adheres to a one-in, five-out rule. A tough but smart way to pare down your wardrobe!
Makeover Your Mind: Although work takes up most of my mental prowess, I've been wanting to brush up on my German and Italian; the authors say that if learning or refreshing a language is your goal, start incorporating some of its basic phrases into your daily vernacular and routine. Had a good day of language learning? Treat yourself to dinner at an ethnic restaurant where you can practice the language! Mi piace!

Weekend 'Catch-Up' Sleep May Cut Young Drivers' Crash Risk

By Steven Reinberg
HealthDay Reporter
MONDAY, May 20 (HealthDay News) -- Young drivers who get behind the wheel while drowsy run a higher risk of getting into car crashes, but Australian researchers have found that not catching up on missed sleep on weekends puts them in even greater danger of having an accident at night.
"This is another challenge to adolescents that comes with lack of sleep," said Dr. Flaura Winston, co-scientific director and founder of the Center for Injury Research and Prevention at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
"You have to be ready, body and mind, to drive," she said. "If you are exhausted, you are neither ready body nor mind."
In tackling this challenge, both parents and the community have roles to play, said Winston, who was not involved with the study.
"This is a safety concern," she said. "If the teen doesn't get enough sleep, then they are at increased risk for crashes, so parents need to step in."
Parents should see their role as one that helps their teenager stay safe without being controlling, Winston explained. They can encourage their children to get more sleep, and provide rides at night to ensure that their teens are not driving exhausted.
One of the more positive things parents can do is let their teen sleep late on the weekends, Winston noted. "Teens need their catch-up sleep," she said. "They do need to sleep late on the weekends."
There are also social factors that limit teens' sleep. For example, many high schools start classes very early, cutting into students' sleep time, Winston pointed out. "Studies have shown that later school start times are better for adolescents," she said.
Not only do they start school early, but "they have long days. They have sports, after-school activities and studying, so there are things that are way beyond the family that put these teens at risk when it comes to driving," Winston said.
The report was published online May 20 in the journal JAMA Pediatrics.
To look at what role sleep plays in teen car crashes, a team led by Alexandra Martiniuk, an associate professor at the George Institute for Global Health in Sydney, collected data on more than 20,000 drivers aged 17 to 24.
The investigators found that those who said they slept six or fewer hours a night had a 21 percent higher risk of having a car accident than those who got more than six hours of sleep.
Moreover, those who got less sleep on the weekends had a 55 percent increased chance of having a single-car accident, where the car drifts or swerves off the road, they added.
Most accidents (86 percent) happened between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., the researchers noted.
"Sleeping six hours a night is enough to put young drivers at significant risk of having a car crash. With work, study and social commitments, especially on weekends, it is easy to miss out on the extra hours of sleep we need," Martiniuk said in a statement.
More than 3,000 people die every day in car crashes around the world -- that's more than 1.3 million car-related deaths a year, with between 20 million and 50 million people injured or disabled, the researchers noted.
In the United States alone, it is estimated that 20 percent of all car crashes are the result of drowsy driving, which adds up to 1 million crashes, 50,000 injuries and 8,000 deaths a year, the study found.

Weekend Project! How to Perfectly Arrange Flowers
Meet one of SELF's Editorial Assistants, Alyssa. When's she not scoping out the latest pop culture trends for our Entertainment department, Alyssa can usually be found DIYing. We tap into her craftiness to find out what she's whipping up every week.
We may have lost an hour this past week, but we gained spring. (Or at least, we almost have!) There's no better way to ring in the season than adding fresh flowers to your home or apartment. I'm pretty bloom-obsessed, so through the years (and a little trial and error involving dead, smelly flowers), I've picked up several tips and tricks that make pulling together a proper arrangement a cinch. Follow these, and you'll be a veritable flower child before you know it.
Trim It

Always trim a fresh end for stems once you bring them home from the flower shop. Cutting the stem at an angle allows for more water to be absorbed into the flower. To keep your flowers alive as long as possible, you can continue to cut the stems on an angle every four days (they'll get progressively shorter, so make sure you keep a bit of length initially).
Tape It

If you're looking for a simple way to give your arrangements a professional look, look no further than your junk drawer. Use tape (yes, really!) to create a grid formation on the mouth of your vase to keep flowers evenly spaced and in formation. If you want to get really fancy-pants, pick up some florist tape (but you totally don't need to).
Arrange It

There are several tricks to arranging a gasp-worthy bouquet. First, always remove any stray leaves from the stems-a good rule of thumb is anything below the waterline (aka where you're filling the water up to in the vase) goes. Then, decide what look you're aiming for.
One of my favorite bouquet styles is a lot of one flower (in one color family as well) arranged in a vase. Pick a big guy, like a hydrangea bloom and let it take center stage in a vase by itself. Hydrangeas are needy-replace their water every day!

Another fun twist is quirky vases. I was gifted this little fishy as a housewarming present-I happen to think it's totally awesome. I put a small bundle of flowers in it and tied with a burlap string-it looks a little shabby-chic, and I love that! Another option is turning a light bulb into a hanging vase-and you need are pliers, a little patience and burlap string-SO cute.

If you're looking for a long-lasting minimal look, try sprigs of dried lavender and grass in vases (mason jars or old bottles that have been spray painted work perfectly!). They look natural and stylish-and you don't have to worry about them dying!

Awesome Weekend
My weekend started on Friday with Friday Funday!
Friday, after a morning meeting the entire office headed out for an early lunch out in East Memphis. We had a choice of where to eat between a deli and tacos. Of course, I chose tacos.
It was my first time eating at Swanky’s Taco Shop. I ordered crunchy chicken tacos.
They were nice but not the best tacos I’ve ever had. Maybe I should have eaten them slower. I couldn’t though because our office field trip continued… with a movie!
Yep, we went to see the new Avengers movie. Sometimes it’s nice working with a bunch of geeks. ;) I really enjoyed the movie – it was quite funny! After the movie half the office went home and the rest of us grabbed some Ben & Jerry’s ice cream before parting ways back at the office.
Saturday was a busy day for me. I hit up Walmart for some needed supplies like contact solution and then visited some thrift stores for new clothes.
I love thrift stores both for the price and the randomness of the selection. Sometimes I’ll go shopping and find nothing I like and sometimes I’ll leave things at the store I wish I could have bought. It just depends on how lucky I get. This particular shopping trip was extremely lucky because I finally found a maxi dress I liked!
It’s a bit long on me because I’m a shorty but I love it. It’s so vibrant and the colors are awesome. It’s not really anything special but after a long search for a dress I both liked and could afford I’m happy to have found it!
Sunday was spent doing absolutely nothing for the most part. I’ve been a lazy bum to be honest. The two productive things I’ve done were reading the Rebel Strength Guide because I’m thinking about actually doing one of Nerd Fitness’s guides all the way through and cooking some food for the rest of the week.
I’m trying to combat my new tendency to eat out every day (sometimes multiple times a day) since I’ve been here. Maybe having food ready and portioned out will help me make some better choices this week. My body needs a break from the sodium and calorie overload from eating out so much. We will see!
How was your weekend? Have a great week!

Weekend in Philly
This weekend, I flew to Philadelphia for the ASCD National conference. I went with a group of 10 ladies from work.
We had a blast.
When we got there Friday night, traffic was a nightmare due to some rally. It literally took us half an hour to go 8 miles from the airport to the hotel.

After arriving we decided to eat dinner close to the hotel so we ate at a quaint little place called The Rose Tattoo Cafe.
Dinner was a bit pricey but it was super good. We all shared the appetizer and then I had salmon for dinner. It was really delicious and healthy! It was one of the ladies birthdays so they brought out Philly cheesecake for us to share. It was heaven on a plate and the two bites I had were just enough to get that sweet ending to the meal.
Saturday and Sunday were both early days getting up at 5:30. Breakfast was a full buffet so I filled up on an omelet with a big thing of fresh fruit and coffee of course.
The whole day on Saturday was spent at the conference where I heard some great speakers on integrating technology into the curriculum. I walked away with lots of great ideas.
Lunch was at this amazing market in downtown Philadelphia, Reading Terminal Market.

I wish I had one of these markets where I live. The fresh fish and produce there looked amazing!

The place was packed too!
I had to have a cheese steak since I was in Philly, with whiz of course. Surprisingly, it wasn’t all that great. I guess maybe my expectations were too high. Or I just didn’t get a really good one. Either way, the amount of grease probably put a damper on the taste.
The afternoon was filled with more sessions including two Google Chromebook presentations.
I love Google Chromebook because my husband and I have one at home and we use Google docs and a shared Google Calendar. Even with all my prior knowledge of Google Docs and how Google Chrome works, it was a very interesting presentation.
I ended up with a raffle ticket to come back later and possibly win one of three new Chrome laptops. I headed to my next session not thinking much about it. While I was in my next session, I had a very strong urge that I needed to go back to the laptop drawing. In a very calm voice, I heard God tell me to go back to the drawing because I was going to win.
The funny thing is, I never doubted it. I even told the other ladies I was with, after the session, that I couldn’t go back to the hotel just yet because I had to go win a new laptop. On the other end I heard, “Yeah, right. Ok!” My faith never wavered and I headed back to the Google Chrome presentation about 20 minutes before the drawing.
Another presentation was going on so I sat through it and ended up with a second ticket. My chances of winning had just increased. The good thing was you had to be present to win and there were only about 50 people standing there. The other thing I didn’t know was that they were giving away three!
I said a quick prayer right before the drawing, “God, you know I really want that laptop. Please have me win it!” Again, I felt a complete peace that I was going to win.
Not only did I win it, I was called first!!!! He didn’t even make me wait to be called last! I serve an awesome God!
Winning the laptop was the highlight of my trip! Of course, I gained so much knowledge and I am so pumped to teach these kids even more than they already know!

I came back exhausted but thrilled! It was a great trip and I got to know my co-workers even better and on a more personal level.
People say I am lucky that I won the laptop but I say that God rewards us who trust in Him and have Faith!
Have you ever asked God for something, no matter how big or small and He not only gave it to you but exceeded your expectations?

The Weekend in photos
Peanut butter and jam breakfast.
An orange cake for my aunt baked, but didn't get to give to her due to the weather. This was taken after Josh dived. I had a piece as well and the rest froze.
I made jerk chicken with saffron rice. I rolled over a pound of organic chicken thighs in jerk spices and this sprinkled with honey and olive oil and baked at 375 degrees for about 24 minutes. So, so good!
I would probably wear the outfit anyway, maybe even with my pin John Cusack. This lipstick fushia is perfect. I got it from the Sephora collection color in Mr. Lover. It stayed all night and was totally not like some lipsticks dry tend to be. The dress is from Forever 21, just came in the mail. The jacket from Coldwater Creek. The tights of Kmart. The belt from Old Navy. Modern retro outfit?
Josh playing with my phone settings. And a better picture of the lipstick. I love it, totally wear these again!
Hanging out with the kitties.
Lunch at Wildflour in Roanoke. I had the Steak Salad (yup, there's actually a salad under the mountain of sweet potato fries!) with a killer ginger dressing that our waitress recommended. This restaurant is one of my new Favorites. I can't say enough good things about it.
Josh had the shrimp and avocado quesadilla and a salad.
We then shot in the bookstore next door and where I found these gems. I would like to do a Julie and Julia experiment with the chocolate and Zucchini French cookbook. So many good recipes to try! I think I give myself until the end of the year to make them all.
Our last stop was for gelato at Pino Gelato in Roanoke. I had had coffee and hazelnut cheesecake and hazelnut, Josh.
And last but not least, I 2.35 pounds lost this week, to take me to the point 10 pound loss!
