Choosing food at a restaurant

I'm off out for dinner tonight, and want to pick something that's not totally calorie loaded!

My options:

-Tortilla wrap with either chargrilled veg & mozzarella, or tuna & red onion mayo, and salad and coleslaw

-Baked potato with either baked beans & cheddar cheese, cheddar cheese & coleslaw, or tuna mayo, with salad and coleslaw

-Chickpea and spinach burger with chips/fries, salad and coleslaw.

-Mac & cheese with garlic bread

Unfortunately there's no nutritional info about. I think the mac & cheese would probably be the most fat loaded and calorie heavy. What would you pick?

Choosing to binge eat

I used to restrictively eat, then started eating and exercising healthily, then started to try and intuitively eat, but that turned into binge sessions, now I am bingeing all the time and I feel like it will never stop. I have read all the advice on how to handle it, but I think I've become addicted to bingeing and I love it. I almost don't want to stop, except it is so bad for your health and I am gaining weight. What should I do? a lot of the time I think I mistake other signals for hunger signals and then this turns into a binge session. Sometimes I recognize that it's a binge and I don't stop and I keep going and forget that I had felt full before, it's like I just started eating. Food hypnotizes me or something. I don't know what to do. I've been told to do a diet plan and I've tried that but I feel like I will miss the binges because they are so comforting.

ByGina Shaw
WebMD Feature Reviewed byKimball Johnson, MD

What’s the one piece of workout gear you can’t live without? Your iPod? A good water bottle? A truly supportive sports bra?

Wrong, wrong, and wrong. The single most important piece of equipment to virtually any kind of exercise program -- running, aerobics, hiking, tennis, basketball -- is the right pair of shoes.

A good pair of shoes can make or break your workout, and it’s easy to go wrong. Here are the five biggest shoe mistakes people make.

1. Grabbing Whatever’s Handy

"The biggest mistake people make when they start running, jogging, or some other exercise program is just reaching into the closet and pulling out an old pair of sneakers," says Tracie Rodgers, PhD, spokeswoman for the American Council on Exercise. An old pair of shoes may no longer have the support you need. And even more problematic, that pair of shoes might be inappropriate for the activity you choose.

2. Choosing the Right Shoe -- for the Wrong Workout

You need to choose the right type of shoe for the kind of workout you’ll be doing. And yes, it does matter.

A shoe made for running is very different in a number of ways from a shoe made for basketball or tennis.

Joe Puleo, the author of Running Anatomy, says, "Running shoes have no lateral stability built into them because you don’t move your feet laterally when you run. You’re only going forward. A running shoe is built to give you support and stability as you move your foot through the running gait cycle."

Puleo says basketball and tennis shoes both need to be stabilized laterally. That's because you move your feet side to side a lot when playing these sports. "You can’t build a running shoe that has lateral stability" he says, "and you can’t build a shoe for basketball or tennis that doesn’t have it."

Even walking shoes differ from running shoes.

Catherine Cheung, DPM, a podiatrist and foot surgeon with the Post Street Surgery Center in San Francisco, says runners land more on their forefoot while walkers have a heavier heel strike. "So for running," she says, "you want a shoe that has more cushioning on the forefoot, while walking shoes should have stiffer rubber to support the heel."

Can’t you just get a good cross-trainer and use it for everything? Maybe, maybe not.

"Cross-trainer" shoes never existed before Bo Jackson, who played professional baseball and football (remember the "Bo Knows" ad campaign?).

"Before Jackson, we just called them sneakers," Puleo says. "Then, Nike came up with an ad campaign, and now we have cross-trainers. But there’s no specificity to them -- you can’t do any one thing well. They have some lateral stability, so you can play a game of basketball with your kids occasionally. You can run a mile or two. But most of them are not very good shoes for any particular activity."

Want to start exercising but hate the gym? Short on time or motivation? Or maybe you're feeling so out of shape that you don't know where to start?

There is hope, experts say. All you have to do is focus on exercising in a way that suits your personality, lifestyle, and fitness level.

Your Best Diet

The real secret to eating healthier and losing weight is finding a diet youcan stick to – one that suits your tastes and lifestyle. WebMD has theinformation and tools you need to help you find your own personal dietstrategy.

Never fear. You can still get in shape because movement -- the very thing needed for increased fitness -- can take place anywhere.

"Take a walk, ride a bike, or go for a hike," says Scott Lucett, director of education for the National Academy of Sports Medicine. "Or, perform an exercise routine outdoors at a park using your own body weight." Ideas include pushups, squats, squat jumps, crunches, and planks.

Also consider outdoor group classes. They're taking place at parks all over the country, even during winter, and many invite children and babies to join in. If classes aren't your style, look into an adult recreational league. They're in every city and cover sports from soccer to ultimate Frisbee.

If You're Seriously Out of Shape

Take it slow and look for activities that will give you a more active lifestyle, says Cedric Bryant, chief science officer of the American Council on Exercise.

"Exergames like Wii Fit are a good way to take someone who's a couch potato and give them a little exercise," Bryant says. "By doing something that might be a bit more fun, you might be able to sneak in a little dose of exercise. And the intensity tends to be low or moderate."

Look for simple opportunities to move during your daily routine. "Wear a pedometer and make it a goal to take more and more steps each day with the ultimate goal of getting up to 8,000 to 10,000 steps per day," Bryant says.

Lucett suggests beginners start with 10-minute walks -- five minutes out and five minutes back -- then gradually increase that by two or three minutes each week. "The next thing you know," Lucett says, "you'll be walking 30 minutes a day." He also says, though, that people who are seriously out of shape should get approval from their doctor before beginning any exercise program.

If You're Social

Group activities may be your best way to get in shape. Groups allow social butterflies to be around lots of people and enjoy camaraderie while also getting fit. Dancing is one of the most popular group activities.

If you like the gym, consider Zumba, the newest group exercise craze. That will get you moving and burning calories to Latin dance rhythms. Other choices include country line dancing, swing, salsa, hip hop, or ballroom dancing. If you have two left feet -- and no intention of reforming -- consider a running, walking, cycling, or hiking club. You'll share a common theme for your exercise, and you'll also enjoy the social networking that takes place outside the workouts.
