why are crossfitters ripped? I am looking for a science based answer :)

I got into a debate with a bro at my gym, he said I should be lifting less weight, higher reps, squatting to just above parallel, etc. blah, blah, blah...

Anyways, he did get me thinking with the higher reps, why are crossfitters so lean?

is it genetics? are they actually lifting enough to build myogenic/neurogenic tone?   any response is welcome, but I really want understand the science behind it.

I don't plan on changing my routine anytime soon, but is there benefit, in high rep, moderate load work?

looking for some advice

I have a goal of doing a sprint tri next june.... it thought this was more than doable considering I'll have 2 century rides under my belt by then and several dozen runs..so then the only thing missing is the swimming.  I also thought this was the only time this race was done. Well last night I found out that I could do one the "last chance tri" by the same group at the end of this august.  That would give me about 2 months to conquer the swim of 1500 meters.  Do I go for it? am I pushing myself too hard?

I got an email from a friend who thinks I am pushing too hard. That I need to slow down on the running/biking a bit. she's concerned that I've triggered the exercise part of the anorexia. Part of me sees her point and part of me is like no its ok.   She suggested getting a coach/trainer to push me but also to reign me in. However trainers around here are expensive and I don't have the cash to do that at this point.

I'm so confused at this point! =( Do I wait? do I push and if so how do you train for something like that?

looking for some help with muffin top and batwings =)

So I'm down just over 120 pounds. I now have started doing the couch to 10k training and also training for 2 century rides.  The one thing I can't seem to do is get rid of my muffin top ... in fact in some ways its looking worse!!  And I have batwings.. though I am noticing its getting better with the planks, pushups and tricep dips I've been doing lately.

I was doing some reverse crunches with a friend at the gym not long ago (the kind where you are on the machine with your legs braced and then go forward/down and then raise up if that makes sense) and  I noticed on my stomach above my bellybutton was a HUGE indentation when I do those. We asked a trainer and all he said was OMG you need to show your doctor and be careful.    Not even sure what that means!

so is there anything else I can do to help these areas along? Im getting kinda frustrated =(
