Baby Aspirin Recalled After Acetaminophen Discovery

More than 16,000 bottles of baby aspirin are being recalled by Advance Pharmaceutical Inc. after one of the bottles was found to be filled with acetaminophen pills.

The recall covers 120-pill bottles labeled to contain 81-milligram aspirin pills. The bottle discovered by a CVS pharmacist contained 500-mg acetaminophen pills, ABC News reported.

No injuries have been reported, according to Advance Pharmaceutical spokesman Abu Amanatullah.

Doctors said that unknowningly taking acetaminophen instead of baby aspirin could lead to an overdose that results in liver failure, the need for a liver transplant or death, ABC News reported.

3 Million Lbs of Frozen Pizza, Other Snacks Recalled

Possible E. coli contamination has prompted Rich Products Corp. of Buffalo to expand a recall to include about 3 million pounds of frozen pizza, mozzarella bites, Philly cheese steaks and other snack products.

The recall involves all products made at the company's plant in Waycross, Ga. The products have best buy dates from Jan. 1, 2013 through Sept. 29, 2014, NBCNews.com reported.

The foods may be contaminated with E. coli O121, a strain that can be just as dangerous as the better-known E. coli O157:H7, which is frequently involved in outbreaks caused by hamburger.

This latest recall expands on a March 28 recall of about 196,000 pounds of Farm Rich brand frozen chicken quesadillas and other frozen mini meals and snack items that may have been contaminated with E. coli O121, NBCNews.com reported.

So far, 24 people in 15 states have become ill after eating those products, including 7 who have been hospitalized, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Tuna Recalled Over Loose Seals

Editor's note: This story was updated on March 8 to include recall information from Chicken of the Sea.

March 7, 2013 -- Bumble Bee Foods and Chicken of the Sea are recalling some of their tuna because the cans might not be sealed tightly.

If you have 5-ounce cans of Bumble Bee or Brunswick Chunk White Albacore or Chunk Light Tuna, or the 5-ounce can of Chicken of the Sea Chunk White Albacore Tuna in Water, you should throw them away, the companies say.

The loose seals or seams could allow the tuna to be contaminated, although neither company has reports of any illnesses related to the products.

The recalled tuna products are:

Brunswick Brand 5-ounce Chunk Light Tuna in WaterBumble Bee Brand 5-ounce Chunk Light Tuna in WaterBumble Bee Brand 5-ounce Chunk Light Tuna in Vegetable OilBumble Bee Brand 5-ounce Chunk White Albacore in WaterChicken of the Sea 5-ounce Chunk White Albacore Tuna in Water

The Bumble Bee tuna was distributed nationwide between Jan. 17, 2013, and Feb. 28, 2013.  It has "best used by dates" of Jan. 16, 2016, to Jan. 18, 2016.

Tri-Union Seafoods LLC says the Chicken of the Sea tuna was distributed in single cans between Feb. 4-27, 2013.

Special K Cereal Recalled Due to Glass Fragments

Feb. 21, 2013 -- Kellogg's is voluntarily recalling several sizes of its Special K Red Berries cereal because the cereal might contain glass fragments.

Kellogg's says it does not know of any injuries. It doesn't say how the glass might have gotten in the cereal.

The cereal was distributed nationwide. Kellogg's says only the 11.2-ounce, 22.4-ounce, and 37-ounce packages are affected. See if your box has this information:

Spinach Recalled in 39 States

Feb. 19, 2013 -- Spinach that might have E. coli bacteria contamination is being recalled in 39 states.

Taylor Farms Retail Inc., says it is voluntarily withdrawing organic baby spinach sold in 5-ounce or 16-ounce salad trays under five brand names that have a “best by” date of Feb. 24, 2013:

Central Market OrganicsFull Circle OrganicsMarketside OrganicSimple Truth OrganicTaylor Farms Organic

The spinach may be contaminated with E. coli,but the company says it knows of no one who has gotten sick. If you have this spinach, Taylor Farms says you shouldn’t eat it -- throw it away. The company does not say how E. coli might have contaminated the spinach.

The recalled organic baby spinach was sold in these states:

About 100,000 Water-Expanding Toys Recalled

Dec. 18, 2012 -- Dunecraft Inc. is voluntarily recalling nearly 100,000 Water Balz, Growing Skulls, H2O Orbs “Despicable Me,” and Fabulous Flowers because of serious risks associated with swallowing these marble-sized toys.

The toys absorb water and can increase to more than 400 times their original size. If swallowed, they expand and can cause a blockage in the small intestines. This may cause discomfort, vomiting, dehydration, or death. They will not show up on an X-ray. Surgery is needed to remove the toys.

The Cleveland, Ohio-based manufacturer has received one report that an 8-month-old swallowed a Water Balz and needed surgery to have it removed.

The recalled toys are sold in packages of six in green, yellow, red, blue, and black. The company name, toy name, and model number appear on the toy's package.

These include:

Water Balz and Growing Skulls were sold at Bed Bath & Beyond, Five Below, Hobby Lobby, Lakeshore Learning Materials, Microcenter, Urban Outfitters Direct, Wegmans, and other stores nationwide. They were also sold online at Amazon, Incredible Science, Keyport Hobbies, American Toy Stores, and other web sites from September 2010 through November 2012 for about $3 per package.

The H2O Orbs "Despicable Me" were sold exclusively at Universal Studios stores during June 2012 for about $3 per package. Fabulous Flowers were sold exclusively at Milaeger's in Racine, Wis., from June 2012 through November 2012 for about $3 per package.

Parents should immediately keep the toys away from children and contact the company for a free replacement toy at 800-306-4168, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or online at Dunecraft's web site and click on the recall tab for more information.

Report any issues with the recalled toys to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission at SaferProducts.gov.

Veggie Burgers Recalled Over Listeria Risk

Dec. 3, 2012 -- Veggie Patch is recalling two of its products -- "The Ultimate Meatless Burger" and "Falafel" -- because of possible contamination with listeria.

No illnesses have been reported. Veggie Patch states that it discovered the issue during routine testing of its products.

The recall includes:

The Ultimate Meatless Burger: 9-ounce trays with a "Use-By" date of Jan/12/2013 and UPC code 6-10129-00211-5 (check the back of package). These were sold at A&P, Big Y, Food Town, Giant, Roche Bros., and Stop & Shop stores in Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Virginia  -- and in Canada's Costco Saint-Bruno and Brampton stores -- starting on Nov. 21, 2012. Falafel: 9-ounce trays with a "Use-By" date of Jan/15/2013 and UPC code 6-10129-06619-3 (which can be found on back of package). These were sold nationwide at Gristedes, Harris Teeter, Market Basket, and ShopRite starting on Nov. 21, 2012.

Both products are fully cooked and refrigerated. Frozen Veggie Patch products are not part of the recall.

If you have either recalled item, don't eat it. Throw it out and email Veggie Patch at contactus@veggiepatch.com to arrange for a refund.

Listeria infection can cause fever, headache, neck stiffness, and muscle aches, often preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. It's particularly risky for older adults, people with weakened immune systems, pregnant women, and newborns.
